From a songwriter friend last night: “Right after your book came out, I had a dream about a troubled young woman that I felt was inspired by Book II… I got up at 0320 and wrote a song… hummed the melody and then sang, recorded and produced it… It’s an unsettled vibe.”
“The Fruit of the Tree,” by Joe Kane, is now available on most streaming platforms, and below, on YouTube.

Fruit of the Tree

I’m always breaking plates
And coffee cups…
Tearing pages when I read.
Poetry makes me laugh out loud
Or break down till I’m crying out.
Recalling moments…
Canvas dripping paint.
The color of a sunset,
Or the color of my pain.
[chorus]
The fruit of the tree falls so heavy…
Gathers all around and starts to grow.
The sweet smell of its rotting flesh compels me…
To fly away… there must be somewhere to go.
Every part of me is properly assembled.
I’ve recited all the dogma I’ve been told.
I’m a full reflection of your pride and judgement.
Sinful in my body mind and soul.
[bridge]
I believe you!
I believe you!
I’m burning in your light.
I accept it, can’t reject it
You have stoned me till I’m blind!
The fruit of the tree falls so heavy…
Gathers all around and starts to grow.
The sweet smell of its rotting flesh compels me…
To fly away…
there must be somewhere to go.
I am able, I have vision,
I will take this wicked seed.
Take it with me, spread it widely,
Is that really what you want from me?
The fruit of the tree falls so heavy…
Gathers all around and starts to grow.
The sweet smell of its rotting flesh compels me…
To fly away… there must be somewhere…
Somewhere I can go…
